在苹果此前的报告中，苹果曾指出“过去三个月的iPhone季度收入为310.51亿美元”，但是如果是3640万台的出货量完全没办法实现这一数据。因此IDC的数据令人尴尬。
事实上，苹果在2019财年第二季度财报中就已经停止公布详细的iPhone出货量数字。不过，苹果仍报告了每个硬件业务的收入情况。其中，iPhone在2019年头三个月的季度营收为310.51亿美元，同比下降了17.3%。如果iPhone出货量暴跌30%，又为了实现310.51亿美元的营收，那意味着苹果iPhone的平均售价推高至850美元以上。但是这与苹果当前现状并不太相符。西巴特分析认为，苹果上一季度应该出货了4300多万部iPhone。平均售价应当在722美元。
事实上小米此前也指出了IDC数据的错误，并指出2019年第一季度，公司智能手机出货量超过2750万台，而非“部分调研机构”的2500万部。部分调研机构关于公司2019年第一季度智能手机出货量的预测数据有误、显失公允，与真实情况相去甚远。而另一分析机构Canalys的数据表明，苹果第一季度智能手机的出货量在4020万部。
事实上即便如此，可能也与苹果的实际销量相去甚远。造成这一原因的很可能是苹果不再在财报中公布手机相关销量。其他手机厂商也往往不会公布相关手机销量。这也造成市场调研机构与真实脱节。而作为盈利性调研机构，免费提供的数据报告，本身不能作为最有价值的参考信息。在官方公告中部分调研机构承认，他们的工作并非通过免费数据来启发公众，而是帮助付费客户“影响消费者行为和购买偏好”，至少Strategy Analytics机构是如此。那么以后你还会相信这些第三方数据吗？
